The effective field of view depends on a number of factors: screen size, lens magnification, and as limiting factors lens diameter and eye-lens distance. TL DR: Up to now Cardboard and clones (no difference between them) were much better for VR than any viewer below ~ USD 60 If you can wait a few weeks, I will post my findings here. If you want a new viewer badly and are willing to take the risk, you could order one or at least watch the (currently content free) thread on r/virtualreality to see if more details pop up. Again, all this is based on one picture and one comment. multiple vendors on Aliexpress, I ordered from this one. The viewer is available on a number of sites, incl. As all the viewers below USD 50 available so far only have an FoV of about 55°, this would be a significant improvement.

FoV always depends on the used phone, for a 5.5" screen that would provide 80° FoV in Cardboard, the VR Box would show 87°-92°, similar to the 90° in GearVR with the Note 4. The "95° - 100°" probably refer to a 6" phone, the largest that will fit into VR BOX.

As I've seen a number of reviews for miserable movie viewers (that I owned myself) claiming an FoV comparable to Cardboard, I remain cautious. Not exactly a review, but a hint that the FoV could indeed be high. Build quality is pretty good, and VR experience is very good, as good as Gear VR." Mine probably won't show up for several weeks, but /u/fluxtime just posted on r/virtualreality about VR BOX: "I ordered a VR Box about a week ago. The plan was to wait for it to arrive and then write a review if it turned out to be usable. Despite looking, I've found neither manufacturer, specs nor reviews. The Chinese text translates to Field of view 95 to 100 degrees. All assumptions about the FoV are based on a single picture found on a shop page. I've found the VR BOX a while ago and recently ordered one, which hasn't arrived yet.
